Fun Autumn Toadstool Crafts for Your RV

autumn crafts

While summer is the most popular season for camping, fall isn’t far behind! Fall camping offers many things that summer camping can’t: warm, sunny days followed by crisp, chilly nights; quiet, empty campgrounds; hiking trails lined with brilliant hues of red, orange, and yellow. Fall is also known for an abundance of acorns. Anywhere there are oak trees there are loads of acorns falling from them! So why not collect them and make a cute toadstool craft that you can use to adorn your RV while you’re camping in the fall. In addition, here are some other fun autumn toadstool crafts that you’ll love showing off at your campsite.

Upside Down Acorn Toadstools

Set these adorable little toadstools in houseplants or in your RV’s windows for decoration.

What You Need:

  • Large and small acorns with caps still intact
  • Red paint
  • White paint
  • Paintbrushes (one very fine-tipped brush for the small white dots)
  • Glue gun

Let’s Get Started:

  1. Carefully remove the caps from the acorns.
  2. Paint the caps red.
  3. Using your brush with the fine tip, paint small white dots on the red caps. Set them aside so they can dry.
  4. Turn your acorn bottoms upside down so the pointy nub is facing up. If they don’t balance well, sand them down a little until they sit evenly on the tabletop.
  5. Once the tops have dried, apply a generous dab of hot glue on the inside of each cap (one at a time).
  6. After applying the glue, press the cap onto the tip of an acorn. Hold it in place for a minute or two until it’s secure.
  7. Once you’ve done this with all of your acorns, you’ll have an enchanting little garden of acorn toadstools that will add whimsy to the inside of your RV.

Garden Toadstool Stumps

These large toadstools can be used for seating under your RV’s awning. While they’re somewhat on the heavy side, they’re super cute and functional!

What You Need:

  • Old wooden salad bowls in various sizes
  • Red spray paint
  • White paint
  • Paintbrush
  • Screws
  • Wooden stumps

Let’s Get Started:

  1. Set your wooden bowls upside down on a garbage bag or newspaper and spray them thoroughly with the red spray paint.
  2. Using your paintbrush, create white circles on the wooden bowl. Let it dry.
  3. Once the bowl is dry, turn it over and drill a hole in the center of the bowl.
  4. Grab a stump and set the red bowl (upside down) onto the stump so that it’s centered. Screw the bowl onto the stump so that it’s secure.
  5. Repeat these steps for all of your bowls and stumps. Set your fantastical garden toadstools on your RV’s patio under the awning for an adorable garden-like scene. No matter whether you sit on them, set drinks or books on them, or just use them as decoration, fellow campers will love the charming display and will most likely ask you where you got them!

Clay Pot Toadstools

Visit your local garden center and stock up on clay pots and bowls of all different sizes. Match pots with bowls that fit nicely on top (upside down) to create your garden toadstools/mushrooms. Set these around your RV’s patio to add instant personality and charm!

What You Need:

  • Clay pots and bowls in various sizes (unglazed)
  • Latex craft paint (red & white/off-white)
  • Spray acrylic topcoat
  • Paintbrushes
  • Spray satin topcoat sealer

Let’s Get Started:

  1. Create a painting center by laying down lots of newspaper (preferably outside or in the garage). Set your clay materials on the newspaper.
  2. To seal your pots, spray or paint them with the acrylic topcoat. Apply two coats and let them dry well.
  3. Once they are dry, paint the bowls (mushroom caps) red and the stems white or off-white. Let them dry.
  4. Using your white/off-white paint, create circles on the red mushroom caps. Let them dry.
  5. Finally, seal your cute creations by spraying them with the satin topcoat sealer. This makes them easy to wipe down and clean off when they get dirty.
  6. Assemble them by placing the red mushroom caps upside down on top of the stems. Set them under your RV’s awning or around your RV to create a magical fairyland in the great outdoors.
